Winemaker Notes
With each sip of our new Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, you’ll experience the rich scents of wild blueberry, muddled raspberry and subtle hints of molasses and vanilla bean. On the palate, flavors of sarsaparilla, allspice and bittersweet chocolate are underscored by a restrained style and taste that is classically Decoy. This single appellation wine is aged in French oak barrels, highlighting the depth, complexity, and spice true to this powerful region.

The 2022 growing season began with near-normal rainfall in January, with below-average precipitation the remainder of the season. The continued drought conditions led to an early budbreak, followed by a cool and windy spring that led to a lighter fruit set. Summer provided ideal ripening conditions with average temperatures in the 90s throughout August. A well-predicted September heat event was mitigated by proactive irrigation and an atypical harvest rain that cooled the vines and soils. The resulting Bordeaux-varietal wines are showing beautiful varietal character, depth and finesse, with the small berries providing excellent color, concentration and structure.
