Rock Angel Provence Rose, Chateau D'Esclans, Cotes de Provence, France, 2024
Grapes: 60% Grenache & 40% Vermentino (Rolle), "Optical eye" sorting of grapes at harvest, partial barrel fermentation and six months on lees (with stirring) before bottling
Producer Tasting Note:
AROMA - Delicate red berry aromas with mineral notes, along with floral hints and a subtle spice. PALATE - Rock Angel is rich and racy on the palate. The use of partial oak ageing adds a creamy feel and texture to this wine, and the flinty minerality embues it with another layer of complexity. FINISH - Powerful and elegant. Firm acidity with a long and silky finish.
This rosé bears a more complex and structured taste profile than Whispering Angel bringing rosé lovers a bigger and richer wine that is fabulous as an aperitif, or paired with a broad range of fine cuisine. If you like the minerality of a Sancerre, you will love this wine.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"The nose reveals delicate red berry aromas with hints of garrigue herbs. On the palate, peach and pomegranate fruit take the lead, supported by a lees-derived texture and a creamy mouthfeel. Subtle oak adds weight and extends the finish, enhancing both depth and length. Medium-plus acidity is well integrated, lending freshness without disrupting the wine’s rounded balance"
SILVER MEDAL, The Global Rosé Masters, DRINKS BUSINESS, 2025
Rock Angel is a consistent medal winner at this competition - 2021 vintage: GOLD; 2020 vintage: GOLD; 2019 vintage: GOLD; 2018 vintage: MASTER; 2017 vintage: GOLD
"Rock is another wine that often needs a year to relax into its couture trappings, but this time, the oak nuances are subtle, sublime, and fully integrated into the fruit. This is a first! You can open a bottle of this wine today, secure in the knowledge that it is already up to ramming speed! Layered, luxurious, this is a true big brother to the brilliant 2024 Whispering Angel. But there is more. While this wine was originally designed to be the foodie version of Whispering, it has moved closer to the estate wines (Château, Les Clans and Garrus) than ever before. This is a genuinely great Rock Angel"
