Harvested during a warm, solar vintage marked by abundant sun and optimal phenolic ripeness, this limited-edition release pairs Dom Perignon's rigorous assemblage with packaging artwork conceived by contemporary artist Damien Hirst, inspired by his Kaleidoscope series. Unlike vintages defined by razor-sharp, bracing acidity, the 2018 growing season yielded Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of immense natural concentration, physiological maturity, and broad structural breadth. The nose opens with warm Meyer lemon, white nectarine, and toasted brioche, before unfurling into dried jasmine, crushed chalk, and subtle roasted hazelnut notes.
Physical weight on the palate reveals substantial density, supported by a fine, persistent mousse and a seamless saline spine that counterbalances the wine's solar amplitude. Ripe apricot and candied citrus zest command the mid-palate, giving way to smokiness, iodine minerality, and a precise, lingering dry finish. When our team poured this bottle side-by-side with cooler-climate benchmarks, its horizontal texture and phenolic depth emerged as its clear signatures. Our team recommends serving it chilled at 50°F to 52°F in standard white wine stems rather than narrow flutes, paired alongside pan-seared sea scallops with brown butter, roasted turbot, or aged Comte cheese.
